First test firings - 3000 fps achieved

Since my last post, we found a barrel maker - Dane Armory. Extremely professional and I recommend them. We got a 16” barrel prototype put together and fired 18 test rounds with 3 different projectiles. 185 grain, 135 grain, and 78 grain. The 185 grain bullets gave us about 2500 fps, the 135 grain bullet reached 3038 fps and well, we’ll keep the velocity of the 78 grain in our back pocket for now. hehe. Let’s just say that’s a compressed load where the powder is about 2/3 the weight of the projectile. Spicy!

We got some great footage. Click the photo above to see the Instagram post for the test firing outing. And keep in mind, that muzzle flash is in broad daylight, with no photoshopping of any sort.

Next up, we’ll turn a 20” barrel and another 16” for a cool side charger piston build. There’s a lot going on here, but the headline is that 45/47 is alive and ready to rock.

Shooting impressions are a ton of noise and flash, not a lot of recoil. We have some velocity still on the table with faster powders, and the 20” barrel should give us another 150-200 fps. We’ll see. We’re going to do some suppressed shooting, some night shooting, and other fun stuff. We may even get enough water jugs together to be able to stop that 135 grain slug!
